Little Petroglyph Canyon is located on the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station and is one of two main areas where petroglyphs are to be found on the base. This canyon is estimated to have over 20,000 petroglyphs carved on its walls. The second canyon is Big Petroglyph Canyon located nearby and is also similarly decorated. Both canyons were formerly inhabited by the Coso people and are now part of the National Historic Landmark Coso Rock Art District. The petroglyphs were created during the last 10,000 years and are truly an exceptional collection of this ancient art. Tours to visit Little Petroglyph Canyon can be made through the Maturango Museum in China Lake, California.
